We needed a break from the camper, so we went into town for some Black Friday shopping. We weren’t looking for anything specific, just browsing. There may be a supply shortage somewhere, but yesterday, the ridiculousness was overflowing. We stopped for lunch and asked the kids what they wanted for Christmas. Nothing. Not one of them had a real “want.” Me? Same.
How crazy is that? How is it possible to have everything we want and need? I mean, I could name some things that I would like to have at some point, but to sit down and make a list- well, we just couldn’t do it. I spent around $40 at 5Below on a few things I didn’t really need, but other than that, we didn’t buy anything. Nothing.
I began doing something weird. I began to look at other people and what was in their baskets. I looked at their faces, their lists, their kids, the husbands… Ha! You’d be surprised by what you see when you are looking. I heard more than once, “I’m just going to get this…” and “It’s fine. Just get it.”
I’m going to have to think about this for a little bit. I have been guilty of just getting something for someone. This year, though, I’m going to try and be more intentional about what I spend money on. I don’t know what this means for my family and friends, but our gifts may look a little different this year. #BecauseYES!
